Five in a Row

I started using 'Five in a Row' http://www.fiarhq.com/ unit studies with my younger children. We had our first lesson today with the book "Albert", a funny, insightful book about a young man who is fearful of going outside, and has a Cardinal lay a nest in his hand... changing his perspective on life. We are planning studies on weather, Cardinals, other birds (keeping a bird log), apartment living, sounds, fears... and more. I loved FIAR when Kristianna and Hayden were younger, and am so excited to use it again!

After Bible reading, and our first FIAR lesson, we went to the park to play games. The kids love "dog, dog, Pug!" (our variation of Duck Duck Goose :o), and dodge ball. Ginger was a hoot, chasing the soccer ball and moving it up and down the field with her head! On the way home we saw a tree full of yellow-throated Blackbirds. They make a cool buzzsaw call during mating season.

Later the little ones all went in the hot tub while I read nearby, Kori joined them and Kristianna and I had a book discussion. Hayden and I had a chat about space and the possibility of future life on the moon. Kristianna helped me prepare pork loin for dinner, and made chocolate chocolate chip cookies (blonde for Daddy). The little ones and I read this book we discovered "A North American Rain Forest Scrapbook" a real keeper!!!! It takes us through the Olympic National Forest the wildlife, flora, and best of all sketchbooking treasures! One I think we will put on our "to buy" list. :o)
